The Château
A family legacy
Château Montaiguillon has been owned by the same family since 1949, when it was acquired by Abel Rigou, the great-grandfather of the current generation. His daughter Geneviève and her husband, Roger Amart, devoted their lives to restoring the estate and developing bottled wine sales. A true visionary, Roger opened the Belgian market as early as the 1950s, which would remain the estate’s leading export destination for the next forty years.
Their daughters, Chantal and Monique, later took over the estate and continued to expand Montaiguillon, particularly on the international stage. Alongside long-standing European markets — Belgium, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom — two decisive encounters marked this period: Jacques and Andrée Balthazard, who helped establish Montaiguillon’s reputation in Quebec, and Marc Brugalière, a close friend of Chantal, who introduced the wines to China.
Following the passing of Chantal in 2016, her son Mathieu, together with his cousin Oliver, now ensures the continuity of the vineyard. Remaining faithful to traditional methods while adapting to modern challenges, they carry forward the family heritage and international outlook that have distinguished Château Montaiguillon for four generations.
